[Pink Culture] Macro Marco at New York Style Fashion Week 2017

In recent years the fashion shows of Marco Marco have been really pushing gender norms to the curb with some unique styles and even more diverse models walking the runway. Beyond featuring some of the drag queens featured on RuPaul's Drag Race, the model line-up tends to include people of all walks of life and all different body shapes, heel lengths and all that fun stuff.

This year's show at New York Style Fashion Week, I was particularly impressed with their model line-up this year beyond fan favorites like RPDR Season 9 winner Sasha Velour, but even amazing choreographer Yanis Marshall and famous fashion forward transgender model Amanda Lepore.

And of course World of Wonder continues to provide the world with full coverage of these shows and some great behind-the-scenes interviews and such. It's insane to consider that Sasha was brought into the show at the last minute!

[TV] Trixie and Katya on Viceland

One of the greatest things to come out of RuPaul's Drag Race Season Seven is the unexpected friendship pairing of Trixie Mattel and Katya. So I guess it should not have been a surprise that the pair were given a quirky web stream of consciousness talk show on World of Wonder called UNHhhh where they'd pretty much about whatever they wanted since it's there show and not yours. It's one of the best things on the WOW YouTube channel just because of how bananas it is.

Well, mainstream TV is finally getting caught up on their comedic brilliance and Viceland has decided to create the Trixie and Katya show! The show premieres in November and the official description so far is “a hilarious hybrid of late night, daytime, and advice shows”.

One can only hope that they retain some of the vibe of UNHhhh, but in the meantime it's not entirely clear what WOW will do with the show. And it certainly does allay our fears that the two most recent episodes of the show, while still hilarious, have been about death. DEATH PEOPLE.

Check them out anyway since the girls are hilarious as always.

[Movies] Hurricane Bianca (2016)

Some time ago after Bianca Del Rio won the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, I had shared news of a crowdfunding project for a movie starring the feisty drag queen. Honestly I didn't know what to expect from the project, but I was definitely curious to see how things would turn out. I'm a big Bianca Del Rio fan and so I was very eager to see her in a feature film.

Hurricane Bianca is actually a project that had begun before her RPDR appearance but gained more traction after her Season 6 win. It's pretty much a movie written around her drag persona, who's known for her quick with and savage honesty. The movie also features a number of interesting celebrity cameos along with some of the girls from various seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race.

I wasn't expecting the movie to be all that amazing but I still had high hopes given my love for Bianca Del Rio. I think the movie delivered in that regard and certainly had goals of its own in terms of the message it wanted to deliver.

[Videos] Last US Election Videos

November 8, 2016 is this year's US Elections and we're all really tired of the 24 hour news cycle bombarding us with his or that media gaff or this or that unearthed scandal. But thankfully there are those that try to keep people focused on the more important aspects of this election and others know when to lighten the mood a little since the news can get pretty stressful.

So here are two videos that were nicely timed for this year's elections:

Oh and I might as well throw in one more video since I obviously still love cartoons:

[Music] RuPaul's The Realness

I'm rather busy a work trip in Singapore, so expect a lot of filler content this week.

For now, I'll leave you with the ever fabulous Top 3 queens of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 8 performing alongside RuPaul in the official music video for "The Realness". I have to admit, it turned out waaay more fabulous than I had expected based on the footage seen in the show.

Great job, girls!

I only have time to enjoy this video for now. Will have to wait until I get back to Manila before I can watch the season finale together with my partner Tobie.

[Pink Culture] RuPaul's Green Screen Christmas

So in the grand tradition of Christmas TV specials, RuPaul and many of the queens of RuPaul's Drag Race put up a weird little Christmas episode of their own. Thus we have RuPaul's Green Screen Christmas, which is literally that. The whole 20+ minute show consists of various personalities from the show standing in front of various green screen backgrounds.

Of course this little special is pretty much a blatant effort to promote the different songs from RuPaul's rather crazy-brilliant Christmas album, Slay Belles. But more than that it's quite the celebration of campy humor, as has always been the case when it comes to most things RuPaul. And don't get me wrong here, this is not an insult. I appreciate well-done camp since it actually takes smarts to write that kind of balance into things.

Many of the songs from the special are available on the official YouTube via Logo TV. To get you started, here's the opening credits set to the tune of "Merry Christmas, Mary"

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

[Pink Culture] Katya is My Spirit Animal

So when the contestants for Season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race were announced, I wasn't immediately sold on most of them, which is sort of typical for me. It's hard to tell what the queens will be like based on still images after all.

Well into Season 7, I can firmly state that I absolutely love Katya, as crazy as that may seem. She's such an interesting and entertaining character that it's hard not to love her. Sure, her brand of comedy is often vulgar and crass, but that's all part of the fun, really.

Katya is my spirit animal and so today we're going to celebrate her.

[Pink Culture] RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 Updates

Yeah, I totally watch RuPaul's Drag Race. I never expected to like the show, but for some reason the show just hooked me in and now I'm totally into it. And just recently Season 6 ended and I'm totally happy with how things turned out.

And with the results out (spoiler alert!), it's nice to see what some of my favorite queens are up to after the show.

First up, Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio is trying to raise funds for a movie called Hurricane Bianca. One of the stranger rewards for this project is to get a personalized insult video from Bianca herself in a YouTube segment she calls "Bianca Hates You", fittingly enough. If you want to help make her movie a reality, then head on over to the site!

The foul-mouthed Adore Delano actually has entire album out called Till Death Do Us Party, fittingly enough. We have to remember that she once competed on American Idol after all, and so she has some serious singing chops. And as shared during the season finale, her goal now is to become a mainstream pop superstar - sort of like the drag Lady Gaga.

Here are the first two music videos from the album:

And while she wasn't exactly a favorite of mine, we have to give credit to Courtney Act for making it to the finale. And she also has a new single out:

[TV] A Little Love for RuPaul's Drag U

I've never been too big a fan for reality TV - it gets tiring after a while and the need to edit things down significantly in order to introduce drama and other subplots leaves you with a lot of cookie-cutter plots rehashed season over season. And as a gay man, I don't have all that much patience to offer the shows "typically" popular among my fellow queers like America's Next Top Model or whatever.

But strangely enough, I have developed a bit of a soft spot for RuPaul's Drag U along with a decent respect for its parent show, RuPaul's Drag Race. And it's not exactly a totally brilliant show or one that deserves extensive rewards (or even critical thought), but they really mean well and the end results are pretty interesting, to say the least.

And with the third season of the show already complete, you have to admit that they're really making a little headway for themselves.
