Every year Google pulls some crazy stunts on the first of April -in other words April Fool's Day. I could spend an entire series of blog posts just celebrating all the fun things that they've come up with over the years, instead let's just spend today talking about a few of the things that Google did this year.

And remember, once upon a time Gmail was launched on the first of April. Thankfully that wasn't a joke, hehe.

Best of all - a lot of their pranks came with videos!

[April Fool's Day] The Adventure of Many Lifetimes

This will probably put joy in Rocky's heart.

Today, Google and Virgin group has unveiled Virgle. The aim of the venture is to establish a human settlement on Mars.

The Virgle 100-Year Plan calls for selecting Virgle Pioneers (apply here if you are interested), a manned trip to Mars, an Initial Public Offering, and the establishment of the Virgle City in Mars.

You can read the press release here, and the FAQ here.

[Google] More April Foolery

Gmail Paper

It seems the April foolishness didn't end with the announcement of Google TiSP.

There's a viral email going around that announces the launch of Gmail Paper, supposedly a service that will send you all your emails in paper form as long as you allow for ads to be posted on the pack of your copies "...in red, bold, 36 pt Helvetica" based on the webpage.

If you enjoyed this, you may want to check out the program policies page for "more information" about this service, hehe.

I wonder what other April Fool's Day surprises are out there. Happy April Fool's Day everyone!

Everyone has been speculating on what Google might do for April Fool's Day, which has always been a day for major announcements both serious and otherwise. April 1 is also the "anniversary" of GMail, which was launched on this day a few years ago to very mixed reactions. Given the day, it's always been challenging to sort the truths from the pranks.

It looks like this year Google went with the prank route, hehe.

Google TiSPOn the Google Blog, the team has just announced Google TiSP, supposedly a free wireless internet service that is run through an interconnected network that links all of our toilets. Yes, I said toilets, hahaha!

Google TiSP

It's just so silly - you can even get your Google Checkout purchases delivered through your commode network and of course they've "announced" an enterprise edition with 24-hour technical support. Sweet.

It's an amazingly humous read. Be sure to go through every page and link to make the most of it. Oh, and you might get 404 Not Found errors of interest as well. LOL
