[Metro] We're Finally Going To Watch Kylie!

There are very few items on my virtual bucket list at this point - and I say this since I know that (1) I'm still pretty young and there's a lot to experience and (2) I've already managed to get a lot done with the help of my partner Tobie so it seems too early to feel the "pressure" of time. However one item that has been on my list has been the desire to watch Kylie Minogue live in concert given the role she's played in my gay life.

Kylie Minogue Aphrodite Tour 2011

But now we're definitely going to be able to mark this bucket list item as complete come 08:00pm on July 5 at the Araneta Coliseum. With the recent confirmation that Kylie's coming to Manila and with ticket sales going live as of 10:00am on May 6, my partner and I are officially booked! Yes, we have our tickets in Upper Box A, since we felt this would give us a decent view of the stage as a whole without being too far away. As much as we'd love to throw more money into getting closer to the stage, the greater reality is that with how everyone will inevitably stand up during the concert, higher seats seem most prudent.

For those who still want to get tickets, your best bet is to call the TicketNet hotline at (02) 911-555, especially if you're aiming for selecting seats from the reserved seating sections. Otherwise, you can also go fill out the web form for ticket reservations.

Ticket prices are as follows:
  • Patron VIP 101 & 103 - PHP 15,840
  • Patron Regular - PHP 126,75
  • Lower Box Center - PHP 8,450
  • Lower Box Sides - PHP 6,340
  • Upper Box A - PHP 3,700
  • Upper Box B - PHP 2,640
  • General Admission - PHP 845
Upper Box B and General Admission seats are NOT reserved seating.

[Metro] Is Kylie Minogue Really Coming to Manila? (CONFIRMED!)

Last Updated - May 2, 2011

Update 05.02.11 - Kylie.com has finally confirmed the concert date in Manila - although I'm not too happy with the results. The concert has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Ugh, it's a week night concert! Tuesday, of all days. Personally, I can only hope that I can get out of work for the night, plus the need to actually afford the tickets.

Good luck to all of us Kylie fans! Tickets officially go on sale by May 6!

Original post follows:

Admittedly, I'm a huge Kylie Minogue fan. In fact, I dedicated a rather lengthy Technicolor Musings post to discussing her role in my life as a gay man, metaphorically speaking of course. And yes, watching a live Kylie Minogue concert together with my partner remains to be one of the big ticket items on my bucket list.

Recently news has broken out in the local part of the social network world that Kylie has confirmed that she'll be coming to Manila this July - which is pretty exciting news indeed.

If it's true. And that's where the trouble lies at this point.

So let's remain calm for a moment here and try digging past the social media hype to validate whether this is true or not. I promise to update this post with more accurate information should it come along as well.

[Technicolor Musings] Growing Up Gay With Kylie

Kylie Minogue Cannes

I don't remember precisely when I fell in love with the music and artistry of Kylie Minogue, but it definitely coincided with my realizations about my sexuality. Sure, I'm familiar with her old songs from before that time, but only as tunes that sounded nice but nothing I particularly wanted to listen to more closely. To put things in context though, I wasn't into any of the more popular forms of music prior to high school. All I knew was classical pieces and lots and lots of Broadway musicals.

With the release of her latest album (and her second music video), I find myself thinking back to my on again, off again relationship with her music. She has sort of been a companion to me over the course of my homosexual awakening, my first relationship and so on and so forth. Every gay man has to have his diva after all. Some still fiercely defend Britney (hello Chris Crocker!) while newer generations have come to worship Lady GaGa. While I'll always have the utmost respect and appreciation for Madonna, it's only with Kylie that I can firmly say that I love with all my heart.

So for this week's Technicolor Musings post, I thought it might be fun and of course most timely to revisit my experience of growing up with the wonderful music of Kylie Minogue.

[Entertainment] Kylie's Back!

Yes, you read that right, Kylie Minogue is back on the road to complete her Showgirl tour which was postponed back in May 2005 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kylie, now 38, seems as lively as ever when her concert tour started last Friday in Australia. The tour will start here in her home country and will eventualy make its way to the U.K. and other nations.

Of course, it's not quite the show as before given her current medical conditions. While she may not be known for her acrobatic skills, she does has a reputation for many different costumes in one night and according to her, "...quick changes are really stressful." This is not to say the show is disappointing in any way - it appears she's out to prove that she still has what it takes to take center stage.

In a surprise move, U2 singer Bono joined Kylie onstage during her second night in Sydney to sing a duet of the song Kids, which Minogue performed along with Robbie Williams back in 2000. Fans of course loved the performance and Bono's presence certainly said a lot about the kind of love and support Kylie has from people around the world, whether fans or musical artists alike.

I have to admit that I'm glad she's out there once more. I know it seems campy and stereotypically queer, but I've always enjoyed Kylie's music. At times she's a lot more fun to listen to than Madonna who has in recent years developed a taste for the melodramatic, at least in my opinion. Now if only she'd bring her concert here...
