You'd think that we would have clearly foreseen this event coming when they announced work on StarCraft II. I mean seriously, if Blizzard revived that age-old classic, then why not others? Still in a rather surprising announcement, Blizzard Entertainment broke the news last Saturday that they were working on Diablo III - a new sequel to one of the most amazing franchises ever. And for the most part, we'd been living with non-stop rumors since Diablo II had come out.
Image via WikipediaDiablo was THE penultimate game for when in terms of cooperative multiplayer action. I mean come on, what true gamer will ever forget the feeling of first entering the original cathedral in your first multiplayer game with the first Diablo - the eerie music that would quicken in pace as enemies neared. The gloom of the catacombs and the cry of the demons charging after you. The Diablo series just did something for gaming that few games have ever really replaced - a balance of those classic RPG elements that many of us have grown to love over the years while keeping it simpler such that even non table top players could quickly get into the game.
The new game just looks amazingly wicked - the graphics engines looks so much better and the ideas they're playing around with now just blow my mind. I can hardly wait for the game to get released, and my only frustration is knowing how long Blizzard takes with their games. Their pursuit of quality is admirable but the trade-off in release days just kills us.
