[Personal] About the May 2007 Elections

This originally appeared on my personal blog, Beyond Dinobot Island:

Today is Election Day, and I'm not voting. Actually, to be perfectly precise about it I should say that I can't vote, haha. It's not because my name has become missing or anything like that - it's simply because I've registered to be a voter in my 24 years of existence. I've been eligible to vote since I was 18 of course and I've missed at least 2-3 elections by now and I've still yet to get around to registering.

I know, I know, a lot of you are going to chide me for not registering, but frankly you have to remember what my personal history has been like over the past few years. I'm not making excuses, I'm just presenting an explanation of sorts.

Now he kicker comes when people try to ask me when I plan to register or if I will register in the future. Frankly, I don't know. I think I'd do it so I'd have another government ID - but I doubt I'll actually vote. Abstaining is a valid choice after all, an indication that I do not support any of the available candidates. It's not about apathy or something - I just really don't feel anyone is worth voting. Ha! Take that evil political machine!

So for the record, I don't like anyone, really. No one has jumped out at me as being a great leader, someone who will make big changes for the betterment of the country. Our government just tends to go in circles, making little progress in the world. It's like the state of the Imperium after Leto II came into his full oracular powers and trapped the Known Universe into his stagnant Golden Path. We too are trapped, but instead of a course of existence that will lead to a new age in human achievement, we just have a dark and dreary future, filled with more in-fighting and politicking. Oh joy.

Of course this is just my choice - I'm not campaigning for people to abstain and hopefully invalidate the elections or something. I'm just documenting what I'm doing (and not doing) today. Just for the record.
