[GeekyCast] Muddy Blogosphere

Recently I've become more and more dissatisfied with the mailing list for PinoyBlogoSphere.com. The group is pretty much bordering on spamming and it generates so much crap day after day.

That's pretty much what drove today's GeekyCast - me wanting to take a look at the state of affairs within the local area of the blogosphere and try to come to grips with how I feel about all this. I feel bothered, that's for sure. Isn't blogging supposed to be about self-expression and not paid writing? It feels so cheap when people sign up to do paid blogs and not disclose it, as if they really feel that strongly about whatever it is they were paid to write about.

Hopefully this well help generate some level of discussion and in turn lead to me finally figuring out what I want to do with my current membership with that mailing list. After all, perhaps I'm just expecting too much from local bloggers.

Ouchies line.

  1. Hello. Can I tag you to reveal eight facts about yourself? Am sure you've done it before but am hoping you'll say yes...

  2. It's nice reading and listening to your rants about the PBS Mailing List. As i've said in my previous email at the ML, I am sure that something positive will come out from this. Thanks so much for bringing this up!

  4. Hey PinoyBlurker,

thanks for dropping by the Guide. I really think we can do something to change things. It just needs a little work.

    Cheers.

  6. Doesn't Google detect "bad links" (a link for link's sake) and "good links" (honest to goodness links)? I think I read about this somewhere. That's why now I'm a more careful about jumping into some link bandwagon.

  7. hmmm... my first time to listen to a podcast. kinda makes you wanna talk back doesn't it?

eway, sad to say the mailing list is a group of so many different bloggers and it is a fact that a bigger percent of it is focused on monetizing. but that's their freedom.

blog selling through mail. haha! really, its hard when you understand both sides...

    well.. we'll see.

*excess(off topic): your voice reminds me of someone i usually talk to. lol!*

  8. @misterhubs - yes they do and like i said, pagelinks are not the sole source of PageRank determination, so i don't understand why people even bother.

@adrea - thanks for taking the time to listen. i felt the same way when i first heard a podcast myself - it's what got me recording as well, hehe.

  9. Ronnie here.

keep your hopes up! the pinoy blogosphere is still young with a lot of youngsters (i guess) that gets overly excited.

but i know how you feel and admire you for voicing it out.

    nice podcast by the way.

  10. Based on the recent activity and discussion on the ML, I'm pretty optimistic that things are indeed going to get better.

thanks for the compliment - it's more of a hobby than a serious podcast effort just yet. i really need a noise-canceling mike.
