[Daily Geekery] December 10, 2010

Well, it's the end of the week and it's been a rather busy one for me in terms of the whole real world kind of thing. No complaints here - it just comes with the territory of trying to make a living. I doubt I'm going to be able to make a full-time career out of my blogging at this point, but again that's not a major issue. I do this because I enjoy writing, even though I get very little feedback about what I end up posting around here.

Let's move right along now, shall we?

Links:
  • Gizmodo: Is A Prosthetic Tentacle Better Than A Prosthetic Arm? - Yeah, I can't speak for how functional it might be in the long run, but it would definitely be much cooler. I'm just glad they're trying to think along non-traditional lines for prosthetics now - why stick to the traditional human design when there are other ideas that might be more effective, right?
  • MSNBC: First Read - Key vote on 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' repeal fails - This news saddened me, but at the same time it's not a big surprise. This is a pretty heated lame duck session until the end of the year and the Republicans have made their priorities pretty clear. While I admire the Democrats for trying to take a hard line stance on key issues, they also need to recognize the need to get the needed support plus the importance of deal-making and compromising. Well, I doubt this is going to happen anytime soon, but it's worth a shot and we have to keep trying.
  • ABC News: Warrants: Tortures, Death for Ala. Kids - I wasn't following this story too closely until I read this particular item. The deaths of these kids were just horrible - downright inhuman to some degree. If he is in fact guilty, I hope they catch him.
  • PC World: How to Optimize Your Router for VoIP and Video - There's more to home networking that just successfully setting up your router or putting a password on your wirelness netowr. This is a great guide for further tweaking your settings and getting the most out of your router.

Think the cheerleaders should SHOUT, 'Let's hear it for geekdom! Sum Cumma Laude!!' If it wasn't for geeks, the world would stop. Geeks kick-ass. Doesn't matter if they're still living witheir parents after 20. Doesn't matter. They need a place to relax from the worry as they build their future. What better realm than our parents basement? Geeks kick-ass.
