6 nimmt!
Official Description:
6 nimmt! is a card game for 2–10 players designed by Wolfgang Kramer and published in 1994. The game consists of 104 cards, each bearing a number and one to seven bull's head symbols that represent penalty points. Players are dealt ten cards each, and four cards are placed face up to start four rows on the table. Each round, players simultaneously select a card from their hand and reveal them together. Cards are then placed in ascending order onto the rows, following specific placement rules: a card must be placed in the row where the last card is lower and closest in value. If a card would be the sixth in a row, the player must take the five existing cards, which count as penalty points, and their card starts a new row. If a card is lower than all row-end cards, the player chooses a row to collect. The objective is to avoid collecting cards, as each bull's head counts as a penalty point. Rounds continue until a player reaches 66 points, at which point the player with the fewest points wins the game.
6 nimmt! stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic card games, delivering a fast-paced, push-your-luck experience that keeps it firmly in rotation among seasoned gamers. Its roots in the Casual & Filler lineage make it a reliable choice for those seeking a straightforward yet engaging challenge. The game's solid table-time value is evident in its ability to introduce card management through intuitive rules, making it a staple for both newcomers and veterans. Its competitive nature, combined with the thrill of simultaneous play, ensures it remains a favorite on the shelf, offering consistent mechanical performance. The logistics of 6 nimmt! are refreshingly simple, with a compact box that holds a single deck of basic numbered cards. This makes it a perfect grab-and-go option, ideal for filling gaps between more complex games or serving as a light main event for a shorter game night. With a session time of around 45 minutes, it fits seamlessly into any gaming lineup, providing a quick yet satisfying experience without the need for extensive setup or teardown. From a teaching perspective, 6 nimmt! offers a light learning curve, allowing players to become comfortable by the second round. The competitive interaction keeps the energy high, as players navigate the mental friction of managing their cards and avoiding penalty points. The game's design encourages strategic thinking and quick decision-making, providing a skill dividend that enhances players' ability to assess risk and reward. As a host, you can easily step away after the initial explanation, confident that the game's dynamics will maintain engagement and excitement throughout the session.
