Spots
Official Description:
Spots is a casual push-your-luck game from CMYK. On your turn, you roll and place dice onto dog cards. Dice that cannot be placed are buried in your yard. The objective is to complete dog cards by matching dice to the spots shown on each card. Players must carefully decide when to push their luck and when to stop, as unplaced dice can hinder progress. Each round, players choose from a set of available actions, which may allow them to roll more dice, gain new dog cards, or perform other special moves. The game features a variety of dog cards, each with unique spot patterns, adding variability and replayability. The first player to complete a set number of dog cards wins the game. Spots is designed to be accessible and engaging for players of all ages, combining simple rules with strategic choices. Its charming dog theme and quick gameplay make it suitable for families and casual gaming groups.
Spots is currently seeing near-weekly play, and that’s not just a function of its theme. The core appeal is the tension between risk and reward—rolling dice to fill out dog cards, knowing every push could backfire. The six available actions are distinct but easy to internalize, so even seasoned players find room for tactical decisions without bogging down the pace. The canine art is a bonus, but the real reason it’s hitting the table is the way it delivers a satisfying push-your-luck loop in under half an hour, with just enough variety in dog cards to keep repeat plays interesting. From a logistics standpoint, Spots is a host’s friend. The box is compact but dense, with dice and tiles (not cards) packed efficiently—no wasted space, no sprawling setup. You can get it out, teach, and have everyone rolling within minutes. It’s a natural fit as a gap-filler or opener, especially when you need something that won’t overrun its welcome or require a reset between groups. Cleanup is as fast as setup, so it doesn’t slow down the flow of a multi-table event. Teaching Spots is straightforward—once players see how actions interact with the dice and tiles, the rest falls into place by the second round. The rules are light, so you can step away to handle other tables without worrying about confusion or downtime. The competitive element is indirect, keeping the mood lively but not cutthroat. It’s a reliable way to keep the room engaged, especially for groups that want a quick, tactical diversion with a bit of luck and a lot of charm. Watch out for Burt and Doog.
